Calority is an offline-first calorie and macronutrient tracker for Android. Your diary (the foods, dishes, and meals you log) is stored only on your device. Calority has no account, no server, and no analytics, and it never uploads your diary anywhere.

Two things, and only two things, ever leave your device, and both are optional and under your control:

Health Connect

Calority can optionally mirror your diary into Android's Health Connect so your other health and fitness apps can see what you have eaten. This feature (Health Connect Sync) is off by default; nothing is written to Health Connect until you enable it in Settings.

What Calority writes

While Health Connect Sync is enabled, Calority writes one Nutrition record to Health Connect for each meal you log, containing:

Write-only: Calority never reads your Health Connect data

Calority requests only the nutrition write permission. It does not request, and cannot obtain, any Health Connect read permission.

Calority authors the nutrition records for the meals you log and never reads any data back from Health Connect: not the records it wrote, and nothing written by any other app (weight, water, exercise, or anything else). Health Connect is a one-directional, downstream copy of your diary.

Turning it off, and deleting your data

Open Food Facts

When you search for a food by name or scan a barcode, Calority sends that search text or barcode number to Open Food Facts to retrieve nutrition information. Camera frames never leave your device. Only the decoded barcode number is sent. Open Food Facts is an independent, open database with its own terms of use. No personal identifier or diary content is sent with these lookups.

Photos (Label Capture)

When you create or edit one of your own foods, Calority can fill the nutrition values from a photo of the product's nutrition label instead of having you type them. You choose the photo each time, either by taking one with the camera or by picking an existing one; Calority never opens the camera or reaches into your gallery on its own.

The photo is read entirely on your device. The text recognition ships inside the app, so it works offline and the photo is never uploaded anywhere. It is not one of the two things listed at the top of this page. A photo taken with the camera for this purpose is temporary and is deleted once it has been read; a photo picked from your gallery is only read, never copied. Neither is stored by Calority, included in a Backup, or part of an Export. Only the recognized numbers are put into the form, and nothing is saved until you press Save.

Dish Sharing

Handing one of your home-cooked dishes to another Calority user happens entirely between the two phones, as a QR code shown on one screen and read by the other camera. It needs no internet, no account, and no pairing, and nothing about the dish is sent to Calority or to any server.

Backups

Calority can create backups of its internal database to a location on your device. These backups stay on the device; Calority never uploads them anywhere. Moving a backup file to a safe or off-device location for safekeeping is completely optional and, if you choose to do it, is your own responsibility using third-party tools (for example a file manager or cloud-storage app). Any file you move that way leaves Calority's control and is then governed solely by whatever tool or service you use.

Permissions

PermissionWhy
Internet Look up foods and barcodes on Open Food Facts when you search or scan.
Camera Scan a product barcode, photograph a nutrition label when you ask for it, and read the QR code of a shared dish. All three are processed on-device and the camera frames never leave the device. Only the decoded barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts.
Photos No photo or storage permission is requested. Picking an existing photo for a nutrition label goes through Android's own photo picker, which hands Calority only the single image you select.
Health Connect: write nutrition Write the nutrition records described above while Health Connect Sync is enabled. Write only; no read permission is requested.

Children

Calority is a general-purpose tool that stores data locally and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
